Skinazi, Ph.D. was among the leading scholars invited to participate in a major research symposium on Jewish cinema at the University of Michigan, a recent gathering that brought together top voices in film and Jewish studies to reconsider a pressing question: What is Jewish cinema? “Symposium on Judaism and Film” was held in honor of the publication of The Oxford Handbook of Judaism and Film, challenged familiar geographical and conceptual boundaries and explored how Jewish film festivals and contemporary works are reshaping conversations about identity, memory, and belonging. Dr. Skinazi spoke at the symposium and contributed to the book. Through interdisciplinary dialogue and screenings, the event highlighted Jewish cinema not only as a vehicle for preserving culture, but as a dynamic space for redefining Judaism itself in the 21st century.
